Funding agencies, journals, and academic institutions frequently require research data to be published according to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data principles. To achieve this, every step of the research process needs to be accurately documented, and data needs to be securely stored, backed up, and annotated with sufficient metadata to make it re-usable and re-producible. Sounds complicated? The openRDM.swiss service provides researchers with a turn-key research data management solution to achieve this goal!
openRDM.swiss offers research data management as a service to the scientific community, based on the powerful openBIS platform. The service is available as a cloud-based version, hosted on a trusted cloud infrastructure with all data securely stored in Switzerland. Alternatively, self-hosting using local IT infrastructure at the respective institution can also be agreed. In both cases, the system can be pre-customized for life science applications, supporting common data types like genomics, proteomics, imaging, or can be fully customized by the users. Finally, openRDM.swiss also offers full integration with the popular Jupyter notebook server for data analytics in several popular programming languages like Python or R.
The openRDM.swiss service is aimed at experimental or computational research groups in universities or research institutes. Interested researchers are encouraged to contact us directly for an initial consultation (e-mail to openrdm@id.ethz.ch). We will usually be able to get back to you within a few workings days. You can also order the service directly via the new openRDM.swiss Service Order Form. For regular information about scheduled trainings and courses, please subscribe to our mailing list.

The openRDM.swiss service is operated and maintained by an experienced team of system administrators and data management experts at Scientific IT Services of ETH Zurich. We have more than 10 years of experience in developing data management solutions for research groups at ETH Zurich and beyond, and provide the ETH Research Data Hub, as well as other RDM services at ETH Zurich. openRDM.swiss acknowledges financial support from the P-5 program of Swissuniversities for setting up a service similar to ETH’s internal RDM service for the larger Swiss research community and is committed to run openRDM.swiss self-sustained thereafter.
Scientific IT Services of ETH Zurich is a member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics.
